Ian’s Fleet, One afternoon at Stonypath

The Scottish artist and poet Ian Hamilton Finlay was extremely prolific, working with numerous expert collaborators: sculptors, illustrators, letter cutters, woodworkers, and photographers. He didn’t actually make any of his works himself, although he designed his remarkable garden, Little Sparta, as a ‘receptacle’ for his Concrete Poetry, carefully placing works in that environment.

He did however make model boats as a hobby. This series documents his boats during a wonderful fun afternoon in high summer, sailing his ‘fleet’ on Lochan Eck.
