SOPHIE CAMU LINDSAY & ALEXANDER LINDSAY

Sophie is an art adviser and curator specialising in late 19th Century to Modern and Contemporary Art.  After ten years as a director at Sotheby’s in the Impressionist and Modern Art department, she set up Camu Art Ltd, offering a discreet art advisory service to private clients wishing to create, expand or modify their art collections.

Sophie has teamed up with her husband, photographer Alexander Lindsay, to create a new annual art exhibition and festival SPACE TO BREATHE to be held in Bowhouse, St Monan’s, Fife each summer.

STUDIES IN PHOTOGRAPHY

This year marks the first collaboration between Studies in Photography and Space to Breathe, bringing together their shared commitment to photography as a serious artistic and critical practice. The partnership interlinks Studies in Photography's Edinburgh exhibition, Cameraless Photography: 200 Years, with Space to Breathe: Land & Sea at Bowhouse, East Neuk of Fife, in a dual exploration of the photographic medium.

Alexander Hamilton is Director of Studies in Photography, an organisation with a history spanning more than 45 years. For the past decade, he has led its development and strengthened its role in photographic culture and education. In 2023, Studies in Photography moved to the heart of Edinburgh, establishing a gallery and specialist bookshop dedicated to fostering a deeper engagement with photography.

The organisation achieves this through the publication of journals and books, the production of limited-edition prints, and an exhibition programme featuring both established and emerging photographers. Its partnership with SPACE TO BREATHE reflects a shared commitment to presenting outstanding photography and expanding public engagement with the visual arts. This collaborative ethos also underpins its partnership with PhotoDalkeith, supporting accessible and ambitious photography programmes.
